 My Review:
1910 England - 

I think we ALL wanted to read Yate's story!  This was a very satisfying read.  I found it amusing that Roseanna White shared he was never meant to end up with this particular heroine.  Consequently, we end up with a bonus romance in this story. We also find the return of some beloved characters from a previous series - but no spoilers here!  I highly recommend the entire trilogy filled with mystery, intrigue, romance, faith, personal growth and more.

Whimsical Christmas Tale

Really enjoyed this enchanting tale by Roseanna M White.

It has a bit of everything from villains to fairytales to happily ever after.  I found myself rooting for imagination & true love. The faith elements were gently woven in.  This story, reminiscent of The Nutcracker at times, is perfect to get one in the holiday mood. 

Highly recommend. 5 stars.

This story is well-rounded, but best read following book 1.

I would give it 10 stars if I could! WOW!!!

I like how another reviewer said, "Mix Downton Abbey, the Greatest Showman, and Enola Holmes and you get a taste of what is in store in this book". I might add Behind the Mask as well.
I have long felt that Roseanna White's writing is elevated and you need to be able to keep up with a fast-paced writing style. It causes me to carefully choose who I pass her books along to. If you prefer a simple, easy-to-digest without much effort story, her books are probably not for you. Those who can handle more depth to a story, mixed with intrigue, historical facts, a large cast of characters, and exciting backdrops should definitely seek out her works.
I think this new theme is my favorite to date!
Marigold is a fantastical enigma. Her brother Yates, is such a strong character, lending expertise and understanding. Leonides 🦁 is so sweet and yet, exactly what you hope for! The ending was unexpected and I cannot wait for book two, featuring Gemma & Graham, next Spring.

TO TREASURE AN HEIRESS by Roseanna M. White

Hello friends,  
I am frantically packing, searching for a house, getting ready to start a new job and losing my mind (smile).  I still want to honor my commitments to post about books that I have agreed to be on the launch teams for so please enjoy this one!

 FANTASTIC HISTORICAL ROM-COM

Sheridan is fantastic!  He reminds me of a Jen Turano character; FULL of laugh-out-loud moments with all the wit and charm I have come to love in her books.  It elevated the story and writing style of Roseanna White for me, so bravo!
Also, I had a new appreciation for the book when I read her thoughts at the back sharing how mid-way through writing it her young son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.  My prayers were immediately lifted up for them.

Book two focuses on another Elizabeth; Beth Tremayne, adventurer at heart.  The hunt for pirate treasure continues and this book is SO SO GOOD!  Largely, I feel, due to Sheridan.  He is impulsive, speaks his thoughts aloud sometimes in the middle of a train of thoughts so people around him have no clue what he's on about, and has a good heart.  He is a wonderful hero!  Beth has many names for him, including Lord Incorrigible!  But, I don't want to give too much away.  Ainsley, his valet was another great character that rounded out Sheridan nicely.   He was very intriguing, thoughtful, and full of faith.  I loved his lesson about the pearl.

Laugh out Loud: "Dastardly. I prefer dastardly. And I'm fresh out of henchmen.  Unless one counts Ainsley. Which one really can't do, you know. He absolutely refuses to hench."

Faith Moment:  "Beth felt closest to Him out here. Where the wind could tear across the hillocks without anything man-made in its way, where there was nothing but heather and seagrass and sand and water before her. Where she was keenly aware of how big He was. How untamed. How humanity was just a scratch in the earth, their marks so quickly covered over by His nature.  And yet He loved them with a ferocity as wild as that wind. As deep as that sea."

My Thoughts:

ABSOLUTELY ENTHRALLED WITH THIS STORY

Having 4 Elizabeths noted in the story was such a fun concept (especially if one's middle name happens to be that as well -smile).  As the layers of the mystery developed and eventually unfolded, getting to know the characters was something I truly enjoyed.   What made them more interesting was my initial judgment of some of them changed later on as I came to understand them better; they were not predictable.  Oliver's 95-year-old grandmother is something special.  And his grandfather, filled with kindness and tall tales was just what you'd want.  I also liked Darling, the kitten.  Libby and Oliver truly seem to "fit" without even having to try which made the reading of their story all the more pleasant.

Favorite Quote: "Everyone in the Scillies knew that when Oliver Tremayne took hold of your arm and looked deep into your eyes, he saw right down to your soul."

Tea Quote: "...his hands accepted by rote the mug of piping hot tea someone passed him.  Old Mrs. Gillis always had it ready for the racers when they got back."

Travel & Dreams of Savannah

I hope you had an amazing Christmas.  I flew to be with my daughter in Nor Cal and getting there had a few challenges, but in the end, it was well worth it!

Firstly, I tried using Uber for the very first time.  I downloaded the app, set up an account, parked my car at my brother's 5 minutes from the airport, and waited outside with my luggage since the app told me my driver would be there in 3 minutes.  But, the app kept suggesting different drivers until finally, it got down to zero minutes and canceled me altogether telling me there were no drivers in the area. My poor brother, who did not feel well, ultimately took me. Thanks brother!

Then just as I was about to board my 10:30 flight, they announced we had all been re-booked to 3:25 due to mechanical failure of our aircraft (yikes!).  Praise Jesus it did not happen DURING the flight.   My daughter had a 2.5 hr drive to pick me up at her airport, but luckily she was only a half hr into her drive when I called her.  I settled in to start a new book (see below) and time passed quickly.

While visiting, my daughter wanted to take me to see a waterfall.  We took a lovely drive in the rain, listening to Christmas music and enjoying the view of moss-covered trees, a meandering creek, and plenty of nature!  Suddenly, the rain seemed to change direction coming straight at our windshield.  But, then we realized it wasn't rain, but SNOW!  We were so tickled and stopped to take pictures.  Then we found the perfect sign ON CHRISTMAS DAY btw and took more pictures.  We never did make it all the way up to the falls because the snow got more intense and it was not safe, but still, I could not stop smiling.

We visited the Sacramento River at the Sundial Bridge the next day.  It was glorious!!

I am returned home now, and wonderfully it was pouring buckets today - which is rare in So Cal.

*** COMPELLING HISTORICAL, CLEARLY A LABOR OF LOVE ***

I suspect this book may be seen as controversial/difficult for some readers. It takes place during 1861 Civil War, with a heavy emphasis on slaves & slave owners. While that was a dark time in our history, it nonetheless did happen & should not be forgotten or ignored. The author shares that she literally spent years on this book, coming back to it, reworking & researching it. There are rich details & many struggles shared. I especially liked the relationship that developed between Luther, a free black man & Phin, newly signed up in the Confederate Navy (“Sarcasm doesn’t become you Luth.” “Nonsense. It & I are the dearest of friends.”) & how God used each of them to help the other with their problems & gain better understanding of the other’s race (“Father in Heaven,” he prayed softly, but loud enough that it might slice through the cloud of Phineas’s mind, “place your hand on young Phineas. Heal him, Lord, by the power of the blood of Christ Jesus, who has died so that we might live. Let this young man stand again, walk again. Go home again to the family he misses so much.”). I loved how both Phin & Delia grew in their compassion towards slaves, even to the point of helping them escape. Delia is consumed with writing fictional stories & the joy she gets in sharing them was fun to experience. There are several secondary stories adding to the book’s complexity. E.g., Salina is half black & half white. We see through her eyes the struggle that meant for her. Overall, this was a rich story that made me consider much, but still enjoy the journey of it.

"Something about him struck her as photographic, as if he were already a still life captured on film. What would he look like when actually put to paper? Would the camera see the same thing her eyes did, or would it not translate into a photograph, where everything was caught in a moment devoid of motion? No. She'd learned to capture motion - or its story, anyway - with her camera. She would just have to see if she could capture its opposite too. This story is chock full of information & wonderful detail.  I loved how it was woven through the tense war years, the 1918 flu epidemic, and the faith of believers vs the righteousness of non-believers.  I also found it precious that people brought together during those difficult days could still find love, clinging to one another for support.  I was NOT prepared for the part of the story that brought me to sobbing tears.  It was very emotional and definitely required pause and tissues.  Very well written and highly recommended.

HOT TEA DAY and FIRST READ OF THE NEW YEAR

Today is National Hot Tea Day and naturally, I want to celebrate that!  In fact, January is Hot Tea Month. Yippie!!  Here’s a 30-second video I made in the garden to mark the occasion.

Today I'm sharing this lovely wee floral pot, handmade birthday card & Piper and Leaf Artisan Tea Co. Old Fashioned Birthday Cake tea (caffeinated black tea blend featuring Ceylon tea, lavender flowers, bergamot which, luckily I don’t notice since I usually do not like it, vanilla, & cornflowers) gifted to me by my sweet & generous friend Cindy. The tea is not too strong and the vanilla is the star I believe. It is a mild day here in sunny So Cal with gentle breezes and blue skies in the mid-60s. I hope you take the time to celebrate too! You are worth it!

***RIVETING – AN EXCELLENT 1^ST READ FOR 2020 ***

Roseanna White weaves a wonderful tale and starting one of her novels is always dangerous for me as all other responsibilities fly out the window!  I absolutely loved this story (naturally!).  The characters are relatable while the story is exciting.  I loved revisiting Room 40 where the codebreakers work hard to transcribe enemy messages.  The romance between the main characters is one neither had expected and I enjoyed the way it grew, almost out of necessity, but with the Lord’s hand clearly upon it.

Major Phillip Camden returns from book 1 brooding as ever, as he awaits his fate.  Currently, he has joined Room 40 and the codebreakers as his friend Drake Elton has put in a good word for him.  But he knows justice will catch up to him and it’s only a matter of time until he faces a firing squad. He carries his wing-pin always in his pocket as a reminder of who he’d once been and his lost brothers.
